Asian Deaf Club takes group to Paris

parisA group of 20 deaf and hard of hearing Harrow residents enjoyed a specially organised trip to Paris at the weekend.

The Harrow Asian Deaf Club took a group of 21 people for a festive weekend away.

They left the charity’s Uxbridge Road centre on Friday morning and took a coach to Dover, where they caught the ferry to Calais.

Once in Paris the group toured the city, took in the sights and cruised down the River Seine.

They also went to the top of the Eiffel Tower and explored a Christmas market.

The group had a personal sign language interpreter travelling with them to translate the tours.

Asif Iqbal, president of Harrow Asian Deaf Club, said: “I am so delighted with such a positive feedback from our group who gained confidence in learning about Parisian culture and being part of the European community.

“What made it more possible was essentially the access to the British Sign Language interpreter who enabled the group to participate the tour without any barriers.”

Karen Borland, from Stanmore, said: “The weekend in Paris was fantastic and I loved seeing the Eiffel Tower.

“My favourite part was the Christmas market with the Christmas lights. It made me feel so excited to part of this.

“A huge thank you very much to the Harrow Asian Deaf Club for organising the trip. It was so brilliant and fantastic!”
