Kansas City Kansas Community College was unusually quiet on Saturday given a soccer game was under way.

Watching the competitors you wouldn’t have noticed a difference at first glance. Maybe you would catch on if you spotted the flags that all three referees used in addition to whistles.

For some athletes on the Kansas City Shock, it was a new experience. But for many of the opposing players, such as Sydney Andrews, it was familiar because she has played on a few types of teams: collegiate, hearing and deaf.
